Students in HESM 203, the Department of Health and Exercise Studies’ football coaching methods class, toured NC State University’s Murphy Football Center in early April. The class was given a tour of the facility and listened to a brief presentation given by offensive line coach Mike Uremovich. Graduate assistant Jake Kahut led the tour of the facility. Several of the HESM 203 students are enrolled in the coaching minor program in the Department of Health and Exercise Studies and plan to coach football and other sports at the high school level. The students learned more about the time demands and expectations of coaches, as well as the kind of preparation, organization, and commitment needed to be successful at the highest level. Students also learned more about athletic training regimens, sports nutrition, and practice and game-day preparation. Overall the students had a great experience and came away with several ideas that they can use in future coaching endeavors.
