The Department of Health and Exercise Studies invites all NC State students to participate in the NC State Dance Program’s 2013-2014 Master Class series! The Master Class series is offered FREE for NC State students, faculty and staff; however, registration is required due to how quickly these popular classes fill.  Register for individual classes or the entire series by emailing danceprogram@ncsu.edu, and be sure to include the specific dates of the classes that you wish to register for.  All classes are held in the Carmichael Dance Studio.  “Intermediate” classes are designed for students with a minimum of two years of previous dance experience, and all other classes are open to all.

• Hip Hop with Ronnie West
(Saturday Sept 7th 9:30 – 11am)

In this fast paced and bumping class, the most current music styles will inspire participants to greater awareness of their bodies through a variety of hip hop techniques.

• Modern with Shane O’Hara
(Saturday Sept 14th 9:15 – 10:15am)

Through this fun and highly-charged modern techniques class, participants will be expertly guided to their own way of adding passion to their dance.

• Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary with Amy Mutarelli  Taylor
(Tuesday Sept 17th 5:30 -6:50pm)

With special emphasis on musicality and spatial awareness, participants will explore principles of various contemporary dance techniques.

• Inversion, Sensation, Articulation: Modern dance with Mair Culbreth
(Friday Oct 4th 4:10 – 5:30pm)

A rigorous, focused, fast-paced class leading dancers to investigate modern dance principles as the music guides them from warm-up to fully engaged and expressive dancing in a dynamic and supportive training environment.

• The Intersection of Yoga and Modern Dance with Autumn Mist Belk
(Friday Oct 18th 4:10 – 5:30pm)

Seamlessly blending dance techniques with classical yoga to settle the mind and condition the body, this class will guide participants through the parallels between specific yoga poses and Horton modern dance techniques.

• Contact Improvisation with Renay Aumiller
(Tuesday Nov 19 5:30 – 6:50pm)

This journey into an instantaneous performance modality begins with an exploration of the different layers of the body through guided body work and urges participants to move beyond preconceived ideas of limitation.  Participants will interact through weight sharing and touch and be offered the opportunity to engage in artistic risk taking.

• Massage for Dancers with Megan Marvel
(Tuesday Dec 3rd 5:30 – 6:50pm)
